Rocky View Hockey Academy is designed to help student-athletes pursue excellence both academically and athletically through a fully integrated academy model. Combining elite hockey development with structured online learning and daily academic support, RVHA provides an environment where competitive hockey players in Grades 5–12 can train with purpose, stay accountable in the classroom, and build skills that extend far beyond the game. Jillian Wennekamp
With a Master’s degree in Education and over 20 years of classroom experience, Jillian leads the academic vision of Rocky View Hockey Academy. She is passionate about creating a structured, high-performance learning environment where student-athletes feel seen, supported, and challenged to excel.
Jillian specializes in breaking down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps while fostering mentorship, accountability, and authentic relationships. Her leadership ensures academic standards, daily structure, and operational organization remain aligned with the Academy’s commitment to developing confident, disciplined, and well-rounded student-athletes.

Marc L’Heureux
With 16 years of coaching experience in both Quebec and Europe, I am proud to be joining the Airdrie Stars U16 AAA as head coach. My journey has allowed me to develop a hybrid approach to hockey, combining the intensity and discipline of the North American game with the technical finesse and structure of the European style.
This dual background has equipped me with a wide range of tools to support and develop young players in every aspect: physical, mental, tactical, and technical. My objective is clear: to push each athlete to reach the highest level possible, according to their potential.
I hold all coaching certifications from U7 to elite, including the HP1 certification, and I am committed to using this expertise to support the development of the Airdrie Stars.

Richie Hubbell
Richie brings a wealth of coaching and player development experience to RVHA, having worked with athletes at a variety of competitive levels throughout Alberta. His coaching background includes roles with several respected hockey programs, including the AJHL‘s Calgary Mustangs and Olds Grizzlys, as well as the Olds College Broncos Women’s ACHC team.
In addition to his team coaching experience, Richie has played an active role in player development through organizations such as Venom Hockey Development, Dynastars Hockey Development, and Evolution Goaltending Consultants. He has also provided specialized goaltending instruction for the Airdrie Stars Hockey Super League (HSL) program, helping young goaltenders strengthen their technical skills and confidence in the crease.
Richie’s diverse background allows him to provide athletes with well-rounded instruction that emphasizes skill development, attention to detail, and continual improvement. He is committed to helping players build strong fundamentals, develop confidence, and reach their full potential in a positive and challenging learning environment.

Dana Tyrell
Former NHL forward with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Dana brings years of professional hockey experience and a genuine passion for developing young athletes. Having competed at the highest level of the game, he understands the dedication, discipline, and attention to detail required to succeed both on and off the ice.
Known for his speed, skill, and leadership throughout his playing career, Dana focuses on helping players build strong fundamentals while developing confidence, hockey IQ, and a lifelong love for the game. He is committed to creating a positive, encouraging environment where athletes are challenged to grow, embrace hard work, and reach their full potential. His experience at the professional level provides players with valuable insight while inspiring them to pursue excellence every time they step on the ice.

Alex Rajsigl
Alex brings a diverse background in goaltending development, strength and conditioning, and athlete development to RVHA. Before relocating to Calgary, she coached with Prospects Athletics in Windsor, Ontario, serving as both a goaltending coach and strength & conditioning coach. During her time in Ontario, she also worked with the Lakeshore Lightning, Windsor Wildcats, and A21 Academy, supporting athletes from A to BB levels.
Prior to her time in Ontario, Alex coached within Regina’s hockey community, contributing to the development of players through both the Regina Rebels and Regina Colts organizations.
Since moving to Alberta, Alex has continued to expand her coaching experience through her work with Balanc3d and ARG Goaltending. She has also coached with several local organizations, including the Airdrie Stars, where she provides goaltending development for athletes from U7 through 2014-born teams, as well as the Bow Valley Nats (FSL U12), Airdrie Lightning (Female U15A and U11A), and Carstairs Bruins (U11).
With experience working alongside athletes of varying ages and skill levels, Alex is passionate about helping players build confidence, develop sound technical fundamentals, and achieve continued growth both on and off the ice. Her well-rounded approach creates a supportive environment where athletes are encouraged to challenge themselves, enjoy the process, and reach their full potential.

Colin Webster
As the Owner and Operator of Boondock Hockey Development and Director of Player Development and Master Instructor with Breakaway Power Skating, Colin brings more than 17 years of experience helping athletes develop the skills, confidence, and hockey IQ needed to succeed at every level of the game.
After playing junior hockey in Prince Edward Island, Colin graduated from the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) in 2012 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. Since beginning his coaching career in 2009, he has played a key role in shaping Breakaway Power Skating’s high-performance on-ice curriculum and development philosophy while also building Boondock Hockey Development into a respected player development program.
Colin’s coaching experience spans Canada and internationally, having led and organized hockey camps throughout Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nunavut, Alberta, and Switzerland. Throughout his career, he has worked with athletes from over 18 countries, coaching players from the U5 level through to the professional ranks.
At RVHA, Colin is committed to helping athletes build strong skating fundamentals, develop game-ready skills, and gain the confidence to compete at their highest level. His extensive experience working with players of all ages and abilities allows him to create a challenging, supportive environment where every athlete has the opportunity to grow both on and off the ice.

Connor Rankin - Persistent Hockey Development
Founded in 2018 by former WHL alumni Connor Rankin, David Stephens, and Cameron Lanigan, Persistent Hockey Development has spent the past eight years helping develop the next generation of hockey players. Their approach extends beyond traditional drill-based training, emphasizing not only the development of technical skills but also the ability to understand when, where, and how to apply those skills in game situations.
Together, the three coaches bring a diverse and high-level background that includes current NHL video analytics, elite playing experience, and extensive coaching expertise. Their combined knowledge allows them to teach the game with clarity, purpose, and a strong understanding of the habits and decision-making required to succeed at higher levels of competition.
At RVHA, Persistent Hockey Development is committed to creating an engaging learning environment where athletes are challenged to think the game, build confidence, and continually improve. By combining technical skill development with game awareness and hockey IQ, they help players develop the tools needed to perform with confidence and prepare for long-term success both on and off the ice.

FAQs
Is there a supervisor teacher for the academy?
Yes. Jillian Wennekamp, the Academy’s educational director, will be on-site along with the Academy director, Jonah Cimolini.
Is the academy option mandatory?
No. Players may remain in their current school model if preferred (16U Team includes RVHA).
Is billeting available?
Yes, at a per-month fee. Please contact us to discuss billeting options.
Can I register my player for just the ice times only?
Yes. Players can only come for the ice times. Please contact us to discuss options.
Can my player be a goalie?
Yes, we have our Goalie Coaches, Richie Hubbell & Alex Rajsigl, to help train the team’s most important player.
Do I need to play for the Stars Hockey?
No, it is NOT mandatory for players to be playing for Stars Hockey. This is an open academy.
